Wallersee is a small lake in Salzburg – Austria. Its best wind conditions are east and west winds. Depending on the wind direction there are several spots to get on the lake. However, in summer the lake has a lot of bathers. Since 2020 kite surfing is only allowed from October until April. It’s fair to say that the majority of sessions at Wallersee are short and gusty. Gaining hight is a prerequisite to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Kite Spot: Strandbad Seekirchen

Spot description

In the public bathing area there is enough space to set up the equipment, start and land the kite. (Watch out for lanterns). Due to the often changing wind strengths it is quite handy to start from the peer to get some safety distance to the shore in case riding upwind is tougher than expected.

On the peers nearby sometimes fishers are trying their best to earn their dinner. Keep safety distance and respect each kind of water sport.

Arrival

From the highway A1 the closest exit is 281 Eugendorf / Wallersee. From there the road leads through Eugendorf to Seekirchen and to the parking lot of the public swimming place. Usually enough obliged to pay parking lots are available.

From there during off-season no entrance needs to be payed to get to the lake.

Kite Spot: Fenninger Spitz

Spot description

Fenninger Spitz is a camping site at the Wallersee. At the lake side there are a view trees witch make it hard to start the kite the usual way. It is recommended to go for a drift start. Same is true for landing the kite. Due to limited space and narrow conditions experience is required for a safe process.

Arrival

A parking lot liable to charges is just outside of the campsite. From there it’s only a few minutes walk to the lake side.

Kite Spot: Strandbad Neumarkt

Spot description

Strandbad Neumarkt is a public swimming area on the east side of Wallersee. Its on the opposite site of Seekirchen and works best with wind from the west. it has a enough clearance to the surrounding trees to perform a safe starting and landing. Again the peer can be used to get initial meters upwind and therefore more space for kite movements

Due to the C-shaped shore the first lengths are limited be the land. After getting upwind it is easier to enjoy the session freely

Arrival

At Strandbad Neumarkt it is free to park. After that the lake is within a few minutes of walking.

Kite Spot: Zell / Weng

Spot description

The spot Zell / Weng is also the lake side of a camping site. It has a wide area to get ready for the session. The entrance is a bit tricky with trees and bushes close to the lake side.

Because of the narrow circumstances it is also advised to be an experienced kiter to ensure a save session.
Check exit conditions in case riding upwind is not possible.

Arrival

You arrive the spot through a small an narrow country road. Ahead of the parking lot there is a barrier wich lets you get in automatically, but to get out it costs about 3€ (cash only). From that point you can already see the spot from your car
