The peninsula of Grado in the north-eastern part of Italy close to the Slovenia and Croatia offers a nice flat water kite lagoon. Especially during the stormy Bora season kiters are in the pole position for a promising session.

Kite Spot: Grado – The sand island

Spot description

Between the Spiaggia Libera “Le dune di Grado” and the Spiaggia Al Bosco is a sand island that changes is size depending on the tide. From the parking lot you can reach the island by walking through the knee-high salt water. Be vigilant where you place your equipment and belongings because after your session it could be high tide and your stuff might be wet or even swimming away.

Starting from the island the preferred wind directions are east and south wind. Watch out for the swimming area on the west side of the sand bench. The spot usually offers flat water conditions and shallow water in range of the island.

You can easily who dropped their kite the most by looking at the amount of seaweed in their lines.

Arrival

The nostalgic Italian city with 7.800 inhabitants can be reached through to roads from the north SP19 and SR352. For parking there are several parking lots right next to the spot where park tickets are required. One of the closest is this one. If you are traveling with a camper look for the dedicated parking lots.

Also worth mentioning the Camping Al Bosco for camping with supplies.
