Lake Neusiedl is a large, muddy and very shallow lake on the east side of Austria. Its deepest part is recorded at 1,8 meters. So basically it is possible to walk through the entire lake. In the following parts the two major kite spots are described in detail.
Kite Spot: Podersdorf – Nord-Nord Strand
Spot description
The “Nord-Nord Strand” in Podersdorf works best with north-west wind. Check the superforecast (forecast for the upcoming three days) at Windfinder Podersdorf to get reliable wind data. Good wind conditions can usually be found during March, April, May, September and October.
On the way from the parking lot to the waterfront red colored paving stones indicate a kite setup area, a access path and close to the water the starting and landing zone.
It is advised to use the setup zone to get ready for kiting, park your equipment or packing things to leave the spot.
The access path and the starting and landing zone should only be used to get on and off the water. This enables a smooth transition for all kite surfers.
From May until September it is mandatory to visibly wear a lycra-kite-shirt with an identification number on it. Also during this season a day ticket of about 5€ is required. Arrival
Coming from the A4 Highway take the exit 51 Gols/Weiden and follow the signs to Podersdorf. Parking for the day at the cravel parking lot close to the “Nord-Nord Strand” is for free. However if you want to stay / camp over night its about 15€.
From there the kite spot is within 5 minutes of walking.

Kite Spot: Breitenbrunn – Neuer Strand
Spot description
Kite surfing at Breitenbrunn “Neuer Strand” works best with wind from the south. Check the superforecast (forecast for the upcoming three days) at Windfinder Breitenbrunn to get reliable wind data. Good wind conditions can usually be found during March, April, May, September and October.
From the parking lot within 5 minutes of walking distance by passing the swimmers area you can reach the dedicated kite area close to the lighthouse. Please see respect the starting and landing area which is shown through paving stones in the gras.
For a smooth experience, inform yourself about the rules and different areas at the nearby schools, explaining signs or locals before starting your session.
Arrival
Coming from the A4 highway take the exit 43 Neusiedl am See and follow the signs to Breitenbrunn. In the center of the cosy vine village take a left turn towards the lake side. Follow a straight road through the reed belt until you arrive at a big parking lot.
Parking and day ticket for the swimming / kiting area costs in total about 10€. If you have enough time make sure to visit some of the local vine taverns (“Buschenschank”) for some vine and cold servings to experience the local treats.
